For patients whose teeth may be discolored, misshapen, or have other defects, the cosmetic dentists at Creek Dental of Salt Lake City and Layton offer porcelain veneers. Veneers are a beautiful solution to quickly and easily correct imperfect smiles.
Porcelain veneers are the Cadillacs of veneers. They resist staining much better than composite veneers, due to the material being less permeable, and they usually last longer as well. Plus, they are practically as strong and durable as natural teeth, so you can eat whatever you like without worry when you get porcelain veneers. They look just like real teeth — only better!
Many people seek teeth whitening to improve the color of their teeth. Teeth whitening is fast, economical, noninvasive, and works for the majority of patients. It can also be repeated with little to no ill effects.
But sadly, teeth whitening does not work for all patients. Some causes of discoloration are not easily cured by bleaching gels, including teeth discolored due to medication or trauma.
Medication can cause teeth to have a brown, gray, or yellow appearance and can often manifest as a stripe across the part of the tooth closest to the gumline. This problem can result from the patient taking tetracycline or doxycycline for an extended period, or the damage can be done in utero if the mother takes these drugs while pregnant.
Other hard-to-treat causes of discoloration include trauma to the tooth, which can cause a tooth to take on a grayish-black appearance.
Misshapen teeth are usually the result of genetics. Teeth may be unusually long, short, flat, wide, or have irregular edges. They may also have suffered uneven wear, sometimes due to teeth grinding.
Porcelain veneers can also be a solution for teeth that are crooked or have gaps between them. If your teeth are otherwise white and healthy, orthodontia may be a preferable solution to gaps or uneven teeth. But if other issues are present, porcelain veneers can correct alignment problems instantaneously, versus the years it takes for orthodontia to work.
Your porcelain veneers will be custom-made for you in a laboratory, using the impressions our cosmetic dentists make in our office. Once we receive the finished veneers, our dentists bond them to the front of your teeth. You can get just one porcelain veneer, or you can get a whole set of uppers and lowers. It depends on your needs and your desired outcome.
The best part about your beautiful new smile will be how long-lasting it is. Unlike teeth bleaching, the effects of which last about a year, porcelain veneers retain their white color indefinitely, even if you drink black coffee and red wine every day.
If you think porcelain veneers would be right for you, call Creek Dental today and make an appointment for a consultation at our offices in Salt Lake City or Layton. We’ll create a beautiful new smile just for you!
