Some emergencies are easy to identify, like an accident or a sudden, searing pain. But others you’re not sure about. Can you wait until Monday? Maybe not. It’s best to give our dentist’s office a call to help decide what to do.

We take dental emergencies very serious! If you have lost a tooth or filling, are experiencing swelling, or any other dental emergency, call us immediately! We are here to take care of you!

Types of Dental Emergencies

  • Severe pain — Many people think of severe pain as a cavity, and often it is, but not always. Severe dental pain can come from pericoronitis (swelling in the third molar area), dry socket (a post-extraction complication), a tooth fracture, or another condition. Don’t ignore severe dental pain. Give our emergency dentists a call.
  • Abscess — A dental abscess can be life-threatening. An abscess usually looks like a bubble on the gums and is typically filled with bacteria. If you have pain, redness, fever, or swelling associated with what looks like an abscess, call our emergency dentists right away.
  • Trauma — A broken or lost tooth can be the result of a car accident, a sports injury, a fight, or another type of trauma. If you or your child has lost a tooth, or part of a tooth, do your best to locate it and call our emergency dentists for help.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Unfortunately we can’t schedule dental emergencies into our daily life! That’s why we have dentists on call to help you in ANY dental emergency.

Depending on the severity the of emergency , you may consider going to the hospital. If you are in a serious accident and have suffered a number of injuries, going to the hospital is the best course of action. If your accident is limited to the teeth and mouth, it is usually better to skip the ER and go straight to an emergency dentist instead.

You may have to wait hours for treatment in an emergency room. Fees can be astronomical, and ERs rarely have family dentists on call. Our emergency dentists can handle knocked-out teeth, loose teeth, torn gums, and other traumas that are the result of an accident.

If your emergency is during our normal business hours, give us a call before you come in if possible. This allows us to prepare for our arrival and assess the situation so we can be ready to treat you with top-notch care when you come in!
